Having travelled and hiked extensively in the Indian Himalayas, Madhura Vaze (MLA '24), recipient of the Howland Travel Fellowship, witnessed the changes in glacier melting patterns due to climate change and the substantial impacts of flow and debris cover on mountain communities. Often called "The Third Pole of the World," the constant flux within the disappearance of Himalayan glaciers has affected mountainous infrastructural systems, community values, ecology, histories, and social constructs through continuous processes of glacial erosion and deposition. • Highlights from the Vicenza Study Abroad Program
Drawing is at the core of a designer's work as it actively combines the processes of observation. The UVA School of Architecture Vicenza Program, that takes students to the heart of the Veneto region of Italy, centers drawing as an instructive process that when combined with a concerted effort to seek out, question, and document connections, serves as a powerful tool to maintain positive and creative output. This exhibition highlights students' sketchbooks from the summer 2024 study abroad Vicenza program, complimented by photography.
