We are pleased to announce a new leadership appointment effective this summer 2024.  An integral member of the Dean’s Executive Team, Megan Arevalo has been appointed Associate Dean of Finance, following a comprehensive competitive executive search.  Arevalo has been with the School of Architecture since March 2022, serving most recently as Interim Associate Dean of Finance and Administration.

To the role of Associate Dean of Finance, Arevalo brings her extensive leadership experience in budget management, finance, grant and administrative services, both within the School, and in previously held roles within local municipalities and in law enforcement.  Across varied scales of operation and a range of civic services, from offices of parks and recreation to economic development, from criminal law to the police department, she has successfully led the development and administration of annual budgets, responsibly managed revenue and expenditure accounts, prepared financial reports and forecast models, and ensured overall compliance while meeting program and organizational goals.

In her short time at the School of Architecture, Arevalo has demonstrated tremendous capacity in the interim role of Associate Dean of Finance and Administration, exhibiting her extensive knowledge across all facets of financial operations and proving to be an effective communicator and collaborator.  Central to her successes thus far in the stewardship of the School’s funds is her dedication to implementing processes to improve financial transparency through increased engagement across the School of Architecture community.  Arevalo shared, "I feel my time with the School and the work I have done speaks to several of the career values that I hold close — responsibility, communication, collaboration, innovation, organization, transparency, continued learning and personal growth."

As the School’s new Associate Dean of Finance, Arevalo will serve as a key advisor and partner to Dean Malo A. Hutson and will be responsible for providing strategic direction in resource management and for advancing priorities in operational areas.  She will serve as the primary representative and liaison, after the Dean, between the University, Advancement, and the School on financial, operating, and capital project matters.  As an essential part of the School-wide leadership team, Arevalo will be an active thought partner in sustainably identifying and meeting the School’s long-term, mission-driven, strategic goals.

Throughout her career, Arevalo has also proven to be a highly effective and trusted manager, building her team’s capacity through a collaborative approach built upon integrity, encouragement, and knowledge-sharing.  As a very organized and systematic person that is well-versed in planning, Arevalo provides the resources, training, and guidance necessary to support those around her to achieve to their highest capability.  At the School of Architecture, she will have direct oversight of the Finance and Budget team and the Information Technology team.

Arevalo’s proven administrative and organizational excellence, her leadership in all areas related to finance, and her commitment to transparency and communication, will continue to direct her capacity to meet the evolving needs of the students, faculty and staff at the School of Architecture. Dean Malo A. Hutson said, “Within a changing educational landscape, I am immensely grateful for what Megan has, and will, bring to our School through her deep financial acumen and her keen ability to think creatively and sustainably about how to maximize our resources towards our shared goals.  To say that in her short time with us at the School of Architecture, she has been transformative in her role, is not an overstatement.  As our new Associate Dean of Finance, I am delighted that Megan will be able to bring her credibility and forward-thinking approach to bear on our collective efforts to achieve our educational mission.”
