The Mario di Valmarana Center for Studies in Venice and Vicenza, located within the former Vescovado (Bishop’s Palace) in the center of Vicenza, was launched in fall 2025 to expand the School of Architecture's educational and research opportunities in the region. Photo by Lino's & Co.

For 50 years, the University of Virginia School of Architecture has cultivated a deep and enduring relationship with Italy’s Veneto region through its study abroad programs in Vicenza and Venice, founded by Professor Mario di Valmarana (1929–2010). This milestone year marks both the anniversary of those programs and the opening of the Mario di Valmarana Center for Studies in Venice and Vicenza, UVA’s first academic outpost abroad.

Creating a Global Library: The Mario di Valmarana Center for Studies in Venice and Vicenza convenes scholars, students, and alumni for two days of reflection, conversation, and celebration—looking back on five decades of exchange while imagining new futures for research and education between the School of Architecture and the Veneto.

All events are free; registration is required.
