Biography
Manuel Bailo Esteve, Ph.D., is Professor of Architecture and Director of the School's Barcelona Program. He founded BAILORULL ADD+ in Barcelona in 1995 with Rosa Rull. Their work includes a wide range of projects, from urban scale to interiors. Their projects have been fully published and awarded. Some examples are: GardenHouse 0.96; Hotel Ciutat d’Igualada, andFaçade-Steps Landscape of Manresa Town Hall, shown at On Site:New Spanish Architecture, MoMA Museum of New York in 2006, and won in 2010 the prestigious international Contracworld Award. They have also received the First “Annual Commercial Space Award” in China 2011. BAILORULL ADD+ received the prestigious Spanish Award FAD twice. In their projects, they crystallize a process of investigation that looks for the balance between assimilation of new ways of reading landscape taken from extra-architectural disciplines and their implementation through a close-to-manufacture technology. Bailo's 14 years teaching at the Urban Design Department at the Escola Tecnica d’Arquitectura de Barcelona and his Ph.D. research “Urban Catalyst” makes him as a specialist on how public space is activated. He has taught at UVA School of Architecture since 2013.
