Amanda Poncy

Biography

Amanda Poncy is the Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator for the city of Charlottesville. Her responsibilities include coordinating bicycle and pedestrian planning efforts between the city, Albemarle County, and the Virginia Department of Transportation; addressing questions and complaints from bicyclists and pedestrians; evaluating development proposals for their accommodation of bicyclists and pedestrians; and overseeing the city’s Safe Routes to School program. Before accepting her position with the city, she worked five years with the local Renaissance Planning Group. Poncy was also co-author of an AARP report called "Planning Complete Streets for an Aging America."

Through her role as Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator, Poncy continues to pursue her interests in creating vibrant and healthy communities through sustainable transportation planning and community design. She holds a BA in American Studies from the University of Miami and a Master's in Urban + Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia.
