Biography

Aleksandra (Sasha) Durova is a post-doctoral research associate funded by the UVA Environmental Institute, with support from the UVA Strategic Investment Fund, working with Associate Professor Matthew Jull in the Architecture Department on the interdisciplinary project titled "Arctic Cities." As a Climate Fellows program postdoc, Durova brings her urban planning and social science experience from MIT to further her research interests in spatial planning and urban design, resilience, climate adaptation, and equity, through the Arctic Cities project. 

With direct supervision from Matthew Jull and Howard Epstein, Durova will channel her experience studying the historical legacies and processes of uneven development amidst climate change-related challenges, during her fellowship years. 

Durova's professional practice encompasses transportation planning and policy, with experience in local planning, project design, and management at international organizations. She has worked as a transportation specialist with World Bank Group and a transportation planner with St. Petersburg Research and Design Institute of Urban Planning. Durova brings a unique blend of academic expertise and practical experience, having led and contributed to significant research and development projects focusing on sustainability and resilience on an international scale.
