Cities and Rivers features a selection from the 22 years of work of aldayjover architecture and landscape, founded by Iñaki Alday and Margarita Jover in Barcelona in 1996. Buildings, public spaces and urban plans construct a continuous territory without boundaries among interior and exterior, scales, or professional expertise. aldayjover is a disciplinary fluid research- based practice, focused on innovation and on the specific character of the place. The work is particularly renowned for its leadership in a new approach to the relation between cities and rivers, in which natural dynamics, such as the flood, become part of the public space, eliminating the idea of “catastrophe”. The hybridization of infrastructures – energy, water management or transportation – is part of an obsessive work in promoting public architecture and public space as grounds for democracy and equality in the city. An exhibition talk will be presented by David Cohn, architectural critic and international correspondent in Madrid for Architectural Record.
