Abstract
Computer-based structural analysis has radically changed the
mode and focus of structures teaching in many
forward-looking architecture programs; it's impact cannot be
underestimated. There is, however, potentially a still
larger role for computers in teaching structures, offered by
two of the most important information technologies of the
1990s: digital imaging, and the world wide web. These
technologies offer unprecedented teaching opportunities in
many fields, including architectural structures. The paper
describes a project to create an introductory structures
course that integrates these technologies into a larger
pedagogic framework, taking advantage of a variety of
digital imaging techniques to illustrate structural concepts
and using the web as an image resource and communication
medium in teaching.
