This map shows the average number of tropical storms and hurricanes is that affect a particular location sometime during the whole June to November hurricane season, utilizing the years 1944 to 1997 in the analysis (when a storm or hurricane was within about 100 miles, or 165 km).

Using Charlottesville's latitude and longitude of approximately 38:78 as a guide, it appears that the TJPDC area has a mean occurence of 0.1 - 1.2 named storms per hurricane season.

This map shows the chance that a hurricane will directly affect the area sometime during the whole June to November hurricane season.  It utilizes the years 1944 to 1999 in the analysis, counting hits when a hurricane was within about 60 miles, or 110 km.

Using Charlottesville's latitude and longitude of approximately 38:78 as a guide, it appears that the TJPDC area has a less than 2 percent probability of experiencing a hurricane during hurricane season.
