Agency Rider. This is a type of JAUNT passenger whose fare is covered by an agency program. These riders usually account for approximately one-third of all ridership.
Demand Response Service. This is a type of service offered by JAUNT and Greene County Transit where riders are able to call ahead and dictate where they would like to be picked up and where they would like to be taken. These routes rarely have a fixed set of stops and are very convenient in rural areas where people may not have access to central transit stops.
Greene County Transit. This is a rural transportation service for residents of Greene County that enables individuals to move within the County and also offers daily trips to and from Charlottesville. Similar to JAUNT, Greene County Transit operates on a demand response system, but its coverage area is much smaller.
Individual Rider. This is a type of JAUNT passenger who covers their own fare and is not assisted by agency programs. About two-thirds of JAUNT riders fall into this category.
Intra-County Service. This JAUNT service provides residents of surrounding counties to move between points within their respective counties throughout the day. These are non-fixed routes that vary daily according to rider demand.
JAUNT. This regional bus system, first organized in 1975, provides mobility to residents of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Louisa, and Nelson Counties, as well as the City of Charlottesville. JAUNT is run by these five local governments and is a valuable means of transit for rural residents - particularly senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.
Mid-Day Service. JAUNT offers this service to residents of surrounding counties who need to get to Charlottesville to run errands, shop, have lunch, or attend doctor's appointments. These routes typically depart for Charlottesville in the late morning and take passengers back to their counties of origin by the mid-afternoon. This is a demand response service.
Rideshare. This free TJPDC program allows residents to start carpools, schoolpools, and vanpools. The service provides matching services to residents of Charlottesville and surrounding counties. Parents of children who attend the same school can take turns driving their kids to and from school, and the program provides start-up funds for commuters desiring to form carpools and vanpools. Another part of this program is the
Guaranteed Ride Home, which ensures that program participants will never be left without a means of getting back to their homes.
