The Institute for Environmental Negotiation

Affiliated with the Department of Urban and Environmental Planning, IEN seeks to advance the principles and practices of mediation and consensus-building by offering research and public services to governments, citizen organizations, and businesses that deal with complex policy choices and conflicts about land use and the natural and built environments. IEN is unique in its combining practice with teaching and learning and its service to communities. It presents an opportunity for students to learn and to gain experience in an approach which is essential as they grapple with issues of sustainable planning and design.
