Alumni & Friends
A-school Connect aims to keep our community of alumni, parents, donors, faculty, students, staff and friends up-to-date on the latest School news and happenings, in Charlottesville and across the globe. It is place for conversation — to share information, ideas, and accomplishments and a place for gathering — to promote events/lectures and ways to stay involved with the A-school and the community. The UVa School of Architecture Foundation exists to support and foster the School’s educational mission, network of constituents and legacy.
The first step to Connect is to update your contact information with the A-school, especially your email addresses as we try to move towards more paperless correspondences.
We pull our lists for regional event invitations by searching for a city and a certain mile radius around to capture the most alumni – if we do not have up-to-date information of where you live, you will miss out on exciting opportunities in your area. In addition, an updated email address allows us to send you our event and lecture invitations as well as the e-newsletter, “Weave”.
There are three ways to update your information:
- Sign onto HoosOnline (preferred)
- Complete the form on our website
- Email your new information to sarc-foundation@virginia.edu
Stay in tune with School of Architecture by setting your preference as Alumni in the menu above to see A-School information especially for alums.
Subscribe to our quarterly e-news “Weave” by updating your email address (see above)
Join our Facebook group - “UVA School of Architecture Alumni” - to stay up-to-date with latest news and events and connect with fellow alumni.
Follow us on Twitter - “UVaSARC” - to hear the latest news and tweets from the Dean and faculty members.
Send us news, accomplishments, awards information about yourself and/or your company for the “Alumni Notes” section of Colonnade Magazine.

Regional Events and Activities
Host an alumni event in your region. Work with the SARC Foundation to host an event of any size, where you live – from a small dinner to a cocktail reception to a panel discussion to bring alumni in your area together either to socialize or network.
Join the A-school regional committee in your city (currently, we have regional committees in Washington DC/Northern Virginia, New York City, San Francisco/Bay Area, Boston, Philadelphia and Richmond). Email Kim Wong for more information.
In addition (or if there isn’t an A-school regional committee in your area) join the UVA Clubs group in your city/state to help coordinate UVA events and activities near you.
Career services
Become an externship sponsor - add your name and company to a database of firms/companies willing to host a student as an extern for a week during Winter Break. (also let us know if you have summer internship opportunities)
Post job openings to our website [we need to link to this when we know where it will live on the site]
Let the Foundation know that you would like to be contacted by students to talk to about their field, profession, company and to network.
Sign-up to critique and review a student’s portfolio, or serve on a career panel at Campbell Hall or at regional alumni events. Email Kim Wong for more information.
Student Outreach
Add your name to a list (with Erica Spangler, Director of Graduate Admissions and Financial Aid) to call prospective/accepted graduate students in April. (Only for alumni who went through the A-school graduate program)
Add name and company to list of the “Professional Practice” firm/company case study. Spring semester – one meeting with student and 2-3 follow-up emails or calls to build a comprehensive case study.
Interest to serve on mid-year or final review crits/project evaluations at UVA
“City Leaders” – act as a tour guide and give advice to students moving to your city (i.e. good neighborhoods to find housing, restaurants, things to do)
