Chair of Architecture Iñaki Alday and Lecturer of Architecture Margarita Jover Biboum's firm, aldayjover architecture and landscape, has won the International Award for the Best Urban Integration for the urban integration of the Line 1 of Zaragoza Tramway. The award, given by the International Association for Public Transportation (UITP) recognizes the new culture of mobility of the tramway along with the renovation of the public spaces of Zaragoza. The renovation links the rest of public transportation networks, the implementation of the bicycle as a full performance mobility system, and the intermodal nodes with buses, trains and car parking areas. The award will be presented during a public ceremony in Warsaw, Poland on May 9, 2012.
The International Association for Public Transportation (UITP) is a world-wide organization aimed to cooperate in the development of public transportation, creation of partnerships and exchange of knowledge with 3,400 members of 92 countries.
The office aldayjover architecture and landscape is also author of the 2nd phase, currently under construction, to be finished in April 2013. Phase 2 crosses the historic city center, solving the current conflicts between pedestrians, public and private transportation. Some of the city's most outstanding spaces (Coso, Central Market, roman walls) are no longer host to vehicular traffic. Pedestrians, bicycles and tramway as highly-efficient, silent and clean public transportation will share the historic public spaces of Zaragoza.
