Roots of Music
9 weeks
Urban erasure blights the fabric of New Orleans. A diminution of the value of the urban landscape has resulted in forsaken territories injurious to the space, both private and public, of the city. The Roots of Music Project proposes, as a strategic remedy, the reintegration of the urban fabric and the use of catalytic, community-based programmatic tools in order to repair the relationship between the civic and domestic realms of New Orleans. The reintegrated fabric takes its cues from historic maps of the neighborhood surrounding Louis Armstrong Park while an after-school music program, library, and public farm are intended as programmatic extensions/invitations for the surrounding community.
