PLAC 5500: Habitat for Humanity: Build with Us
Project Details
One semester project.
This PLAC course focused on the role of local nonprofit organizations in providing housing for low-income families. The emphasis was Habitat for Humanity, but the class also reviewed the programs of Building Goodness and Piedmont Housing Alliance (PHA). The class prepared a promotion video that represented the local affiliateÕs success in making home-ownership possible for low-income families.
A Planning Applications Course (PLAC) is meant to simulate the types of work planners can expect to encounter in practice. A problem-solving course that integrates practice, theory, and research, it is similar to a studio for designers. Typically the class collaborates as a team to produce a professional planning report for citizens, decision-makers, or a client.
