New Faculty: Esther Lorenz
Lecturer, Department of Architecture
Prior to coming to U.Va., Esther Lorenz was an assistant professor with the School of Architecture at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is a registered architect originally from Austria and has practiced architecture and urban design in Austria, the Netherlands, and Australia.
In her research work and teaching, Lorenz investigates architecture and the contemporary city with respect to cultural issues, focusing on sociocultural sustainability, space perception, and the intersection between architecture, media, and infrastructure. She has been an invited lecturer and guest critic at academic institutions internationally, and she has exhibited in the Hong Kong and Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale in 2007 and 2009, and at the 11th Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2008.
Lorenz received her education at the Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) in Austria and at TU Delft in the Netherlands.
