Personal Statement
Ellen is Director of Communications and Outreach for the School of Architecture. Before coming to UVA, Ellen worked as Director of Education for the AIA national component in Washington, DC, where she developed thirteen new national public policies on architecture education with the AIA Board Education Committee. As the Emerging Professionals Director, she managed AIA programs and committees including the National Associates Committee and Young Architects Forum. Prior to joining the AIA staff, Ellen designed publications and authored international design competition programs for the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), in addition to serving as editor of ACSA News. Originally from Tennessee, Ellen earned her Master of Architecture from the University of Tennessee, where she served as editor of the student publication, University of Tennessee Journal of Architecture. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Certificate in Business Studies from Indiana University. She is a Registered Architect, and with her husband maintains a private custom residential design practice.
