SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE FACULTY PUBLISH NEW BOOK: HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTS, HEALING SPACES

UVA Press releases title on Health, Planning + Design edited by Tim Beatley, Carla Jones, and Reuben Rainey

Co-directors of the Center for Design and Health, Timothy Beatley and Reuben Rainey, along with School of Architecture alumna Carla Jones have recently published a collection of essays, Healthy Environments, Healing Spaces: Practices and Directions in Health, Planning, and Design. The collection addressing a wide range of topics grew out of a conference organized by the Center for Design and Health in the Spring of 2013 to convene a distinguished group of scholars to address the crucial question, “How can we design, plan, and sustain built environments that foster health in its physical, psychological, and social dimensions?” The twelve essays, published by the University of Virginia Press, investigate such contemporary issues as health equity, biophilic cities, healthcare facility design, aging in place, food systems planning, as well as other timely and important topics. Included are essays by School of Architecture faculty Andrew Mondschein, Ellen Bassett, Timothy Beatley, Reuben Rainey, and Tanya Denckla Cobb, and co-editor Carla Jones.
