Alumna Receives Honorable Mention in First EPA Green Building Competition
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)announced late last week that Greta Modesitt (BSArch’07)is among the award winners in the first annual “Lifecycle Building Challenge," a competition to create "cutting-edge green building ideas that aim to reduce environmental and energy impacts of buildings."
Modesitt’s project, "Community Revival Shelter," was designed while she was finishing her studies at the School of Architecture. As noted by the EPA, "The concept creates transitional community spaces to support cooperation amongst the inhabitants while they renovate their post-disaster neighborhoods. An umbrella superstructure protects rebuilders from the elements while temporary steel web, cardboard, and fabric structures designed for off-the- grid living are erected and used until rebuilding of permanent structures is complete."
