The Learning Barge’s unique curriculum incorporates selected Standards of Learning and was developed by science coordinators and teachers from the Portsmouth, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach School Districts, PhD students from UVA’s Curry School of Education, and public outreach staff from the Elizabeth River Project. Five learning stations onboard will offer several activities focused on Wetlands, Water, Sustainable practices, Art & Literature, and History & Geography. Science content will include biological sciences, earth sciences, oceanography and technology, with secondary content in physics and chemistry.
