What was once a gateway of circular open space is now the link between the Anacostia Freeway and southeast Washington D.C. What was once a prominent feature of L’Enfant’s plan, has given way to a modern freeway entrance. The circle no longer functions as the other circles throughout the city. It no longer serves as a spatial nodel. The predominance of the automobile in the area precludes the pedestrian scale of the circle as originally intended.
