Historic rowhouses continued the street pattern found in the 900 block into the western portion of the northern 1000 block. Six of these rowhomes, built by William Yost, date to 1894, and display characteristics of the Richardsonian Romanesque architectural style.

The diagonal cut of Pennsylvania creates several triangles of open space along the avenue, enhancing the boulevard-like feel established by the wide, well-maintained median. This park-like, median space at the 1000 block, dotted with mature trees and defined on two sides by a well-maintained boxwood hedge, complements the pleasant visual quality of the area. On the eastern corner, a Texaco Station disrupts the century old character with a variation in height, style, setback and an excessive amount of paved surface. ![]()
