  Using guidelines

One of the most best aspects of Indesign is that you can place text and images wherever you want on your poster. And you can use guidelines to help.

You can add guidelines to your workspace by simply clicking on either the horizontal ruler bar at the top of your workspace or the vertical ruler bar at the left-hand side, holding down the mouse button and dragging to wherever you'd like to have a guideline.

You can add as many guidelines as you'd like -- they're great for lining up the edges of photographs or lining up text with the edge of photographs. They are an excellent compositional tool. And they won't show up when you print your poster, so there's no need to remove them before printing.

View Menu

You can turn guides on and off via the View Menu. Notice the view menu is handy for turning on and off a lot of things, such as rulers, grids, guides, frame edges...
