You have now learned the basic tools for making Illustrator artwork, but creating and manipulating the shape of paths is only half of the experience.
Adobe Illustrator also offers you the opportunity to apply paint attributes to any object that you create.
Adding color to artwork requires a combination of tools including the Color Palette, the Swatches Palette, the Stroke Palette, and the paint icons in the toolbox.
 
Painting In Illustrator is accomplished in the following way:
Select the object you wish to paint.
Next select either the stroke or fill boxes in the color box, or the toolbox. Finally, edit the stroke or fill color using the color palette, (edit gradients using the gradients palette,) and apply the "paint".
