Large-Format Roll Scanner Policy

Included as part of its digital scanning resources, the School of Architecture maintains a single large-format roll scanner for use by students and faculty. This scanner is located on the 4th floor, outside of Room 402, within the 4th Floor Scanning and Printing Center. The scanner allows for large-format drawings and maps to be scanned in a single pass. It can take media up to 36" in width.

Use of the Large-Format Scanner shall follow the following restrictions:
  1. The scanner is available for all students, faculty, and staff of the School of Architecture to scan materials related to any academic pursuit.
  2. Priority of use is established on a first-come-first-served basis.
  3. Access to the scanning computer is restricted by user login. General access by the student body is not available for security and maintenance reasons. Only those users who have been specifically granted access to the scanner will be able to log on.
  4. Student access to the scanner is achieved through training sessions which are offered regularly. Upon completion of training, students will be placed on the access control list.
  5. All files placed on the scanner computer, or on the ScanTemp server volume, are stored in these locations for temporary access only. These files are subject to be erased at any time. No backups are kept. Once scanned, the files are the responsibility of the individual student to care for.
  6. No "messy" drawings or materials will be scanned. Drawings with excessive charcoal or ink, glue, stickeyback, or any other substance that might cause damage will not be scanned. Certain drawings may be allowed by placing them within an acetate envelope so as to protect the scanner.
  7. No student will attempt to clean or otherwise maintain the scanner, short of those instructed to do so by the office of Computer Technologies.
  8. No student will attempt to open, adjust, or otherwise modify the scanner. Such may cause extensive damage to the machine.
