Class Folders Creation and Usage

To have a classes folder created, a faculty member must fill out a PDFClass Folder Request Form. These forms are also available in room 131, and should be returned to room 131. Please allow 24 hours for the folder to be created. An email will be sent when the request has been completed.

Please note: Even though a Faculty member may have a class repeat each year, the folder for that class must be submitted for creation each time the class is offered. Material will not be held over from semester to semester or from year to year. See "Deletion" below for more information.

The organizational protocol for CLASSES folders will be as follows:

Root Folder - eg. "Lar733-Takahashi-F03"

  1. The first portion Lar733 designates the class.
  2. The second portion identifies the instructor.
  3. The third portion specifies the semester and year.

Under the Root, there will be two Folders: Protected, and Public:
Protected Folder

  1. The faculty member will have full read/write access to this folder.
  2. TAs may have read or read/write as specified on the Request form.
  3. Students in the course will have only read access.
Public Folder
  1. Faculty and TAs will have full read/write access to this folder.
  2. Students named on the request form will by default have full read/write access to this folder.
  3. Please Specify ONLY valid computing IDs (not aliases or other non-UVa email addresses).
  4. Please check the last column entitled Protected if you want each student to have a unique folder within the public folder that although readable to all will be writable only by the student, faculty member, and TAs.

Deletion

  1. ONE WEEK after the last day of finals all of the material on the classes volume will be moved to a READ-ONLY folder name "Old Classes Folder".
  2. THREE WEEKS after the last day of finals, the "Old Classes Folder" will be archived and removed from the Classes Volume. After this time, any material that is needed from the archive can be aqcuired with a request to Terry Sheltra accompanied by blank media (contact Terry to determine the appropriate media type eg. CD or DVD).
