Network File Storage

Network File Storage

There are several different places and methods of storing your data files using the school's machines. They are the following:

ITC Home Directory

The Home Directory service+ is available to all students, faculty, and staff at the University of Virginia.

Gaudi Server

The Architecture School's user directory server, named Gaudi, is available for all faculty and staff, and select students, to store work of any kind. Most students will not have space on this server and should use the Home Directory listed above. Gaudi is accessible from both Macintosh and Windows workstations throughout the building. Students in certain computer related classes and under other special circumstances (research projects, theses, etc.) may be given space on this server.

Olmsted Server

A second file server, named Olmsted, is open to all students needing access to Classes distribution and special Projects directories. It is accessible from both Macintosh and Windows workstations throughout the building. Please see Creating A Class Folder and Creating a Projects Folder for necessary information for creating space on the Olmsted Server.

Imagecenter Server

ImageCenter provides a single large temporary storage space called Scantemp. Files stored here are deleted every Friday at 3:00pm. Note: scantemp is never backed up! Once the files are deleted on Fridays at 3:00pm they are not recoverable.

Local Temp Drives

All of the School computers have a separate volume labeled Temp for the temporary storage of working files. You can save files to the Temp drive but this should not be your only storage location as these drives are not backed-up and at any time your files can be erased. Note: The Temp drives are not Network Drives, so you will only be able to access files from the computer you saved it to. Do not save any files to the local C: drives (including the Desktop) of the computers. If you do save to the C: drive your files will be gone in the morning.
