| The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of landscape architecture for the College and Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design to teach graduate-level courses in landscape design; lecture and seminar courses in one or more of the following fields: ecology, technology, representation, landscape history and theory; advise students; and serve on appropriate committees. Appointment begins August 2010. Candidates should demonstrate creative achievement in landscape design and/or a record of scholarly research showing promising national and international recognition in the field. Candidates should be willing to engage in the cross-disciplinary research and teaching that is fundamental to the Sam Fox School. Qualified candidates should possess a professional degree in landscape architecture or a related discipline. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with a doctoral degree, or equivalent publications, as well as those with prior teaching experience. Washington University in St. Louis is a major research university with a highly regarded, professionally-oriented architecture program and is starting a new Master of Landscape Architecture program with the first class arriving in the fall semester of 2010. INSTITUTIONAL BACKGROUND The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis is a unique collaboration in interdisciplinary architecture, art and design education, linking professional studio programs with a university art museum in the context of an internationally recognized research university. The College of Architecture enrolls approximately 200 students and offers a four-year undergraduate degree leading to a B.S. in Architecture or a B.A. with a major in Architecture. This flexibility allows students to pursue other academic interests within the University. The Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design enrolls approximately 278 students and is a nationally ranked, accredited professional program with international venues in Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Helsinki, and Seoul. The Master of Urban Design program affords a joint degree option for students of architecture and attracts students from around the world. The Master of Landscape Architecture program, with the first students arriving in Fall 2010, will be committed to design excellence, regional and international perspective, and interdisciplinary study and joint degree options. St. Louis is home to a vital and diverse professional architectural and design community. The College of Art offers the B.F.A. degree in Digital Imaging & Photography, Fashion Design, Painting, Printmaking/Drawing, Visual Communications, and Sculpture. The Graduate School of Art offers the M.F.A degree in Visual Art through an academically rigorous, individualized course of study that encourages creative activity and collaboration across disciplines and media. The College & Graduate School of Art enroll approximately 370 undergraduate and 45 graduate students with 45 faculty members. The College is a founding member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The Sam Fox School is housed in a five-building complex of new and recently renovated facilities that in¬clude: the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, home to one of the finest university collections of important paintings, sculptures, photographs, and installation by 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century American and Euro¬pean artists, along with significant antiquities and a large number of prints and drawings; and Walker Hall, a state-of-the-art facility for material manipulation and individual studios for all students in painting and sculpture. The Sam Fox School hosts a lively series of lectures, symposia, and exhibitions and enjoys strong collaborations with the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, Laumeier Sculpture Park, the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, and the St. Louis Art Museum.
