| Starting Date: August 16, 2010 Group hospital-medical-dental insurance plan, TIAA/CREF retirement program, and voluntary enrollment in tax sheltered annuity programs are available. Departmental Information: The Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology Department of Montana State University is located in Bozeman, Montana, a community of 70,000 situated in the Gallatin Valley, 90 miles north of Yellowstone Park. We offer B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Plant Sciences with a current enrollment of 135 undergraduate students and 20 graduate students. There are approximately 100 undergraduate horticulture majors in the two options of Environmental Horticulture Science and Landscape Design. The Department has state-of-the-art laboratory and plant-growth facilities, landscape design studio and adjacent computer graphics laboratory. Duties and Responsibilities: The Landscape Design option is housed within the Environmental Horticulture major in the Department of Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology. The Environmental Horticulture program covers a broad spectrum of horticulture-related fields with the current emphasis of the Landscape Design option on design/build. The successful candidate will develop a strong on-campus teaching program in landscape design. Instructional responsibilities will include courses in site engineering, planting design, landscape construction, and advanced landscape design with design/build being the emphasis. The successful candidate will advise students in academic and research/creative activities that relate to landscape design. Also, s/he will be expected to remain current in the profession by collaborating with faculty in research and teaching and engaging in research/creative activity and professional development. S/he will develop expertise in the area of landscape and environmental design relevant to Montana issues. This tenure-track position carries the additional requirement that the successful candidate will develop a focused research program/creative activity directed at solving problems related to the landscape industry. This individual will be required to publish original research and/or exhibit the results from creative activities. Required Qualifications 1. Terminal degree in landscape architecture (MLA) from an accredited program. 2. Evidence for excellence in teaching. 3. Evidence for excellence in landscape design. 4. Evidence for excellence in written and oral communications. Preferred Qualifications 1. Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level. 2. Demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding. 3. Past record of scholarly activity. 4. Evidence of collaborative efforts in teaching or scholarly activity. 5. C.L.A.R.B. certification, licensure as Landscape Architect (or activity toward such licensing) OR a PhD in Horticulture, Plant Sciences or a related field. | ||
