Description
The faculty, staff, and students of the LSU School of Architecture invite applicants for three full-time, nine month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor Positions beginning in the fall semester of 2010. The School seeks applicants with expertise in the fields described below and the integration of that expertise into the design studio sequence. The School seeks committed, innovative teachers who can bring an active agenda in research/creative activity into the design curriculum. All tenure-track positions include responsibilities in research, teaching (including curriculum development of required and elective courses in the indicated fields), and service.

The School of Architecture offers two professionally oriented, nationally accredited degrees: the Bachelors of Architecture and Masters of Architecture. The School has approximately 300 students, 14 faculty members, and houses the Office of Community Design and Development, the Office of Community Preservation, the Office of Building Research and the Research Office of Novice Design Education. The School’s curricular focus is on developing architects with strong form and space making skills, a high degree of building knowledge and the ability to situate these skills and knowledge in complex social, environmental, historical and cultural contexts.

LSU is located in Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana, a rapidly growing metropolitan area that provides multiple opportunities for recreation, entertainment and choice of housing. It has a newly invigorated downtown with an award winning performing arts center, museums, restaurants, galleries, and parks close to campus and housing.

Required Qualifications For All Positions: Terminal degree in architecture and professional experience. Desired Qualifications: Ph.D.; professional licensure; a strong record in one or more of the following: teaching, professional practice and/or funded research; evidence of, or the potential for, teaching effectiveness, scholarship, creativity, communications skills and collegiality.

Assistant Professor (Sustainable) Ref: #006731: Additional Qualifications Desired: Expertise in environmental principles and sustainable practices with the capability to apply and integrate this expertise into the design studios at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities: teaches lecture/seminar courses in the field of sustainability; participates in scholarly and professional research activities; provides services to the School, College, and University; helps in program development.

Assistant Professor (Foundation) Ref: #000179: Responsibilities: introduces and extends design principles in the beginning years of graduate and undergraduate architectural education where formal exploration, design process and representation are taught as modes of inquiry; participates in scholarly and/or professional research activities; provides services to the School, College, and University; helps in program development. Primary teaching assignment will be in the first year studios of the graduate program and/or the first and second year studios of the undergraduate program with additional teaching responsibilities in a lecture or seminar courses.

Assistant Professor (Digital) Ref. Log #001668: Additional Qualifications Desired: Expertise in digital media such as representation, design and/or fabrication, simulations, information modeling, etc. with the capability to integrate this expertise into the design studios at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities: teaches lecture/seminar courses on digital representation/media; participates in scholarly and professional research activities; provides services to the School, College, and University; helps in program development.
