| SPECIAL PROJECTS OFFICER III: Associate Local Government Assistance Coordinator Historic Preservation DIVISION, Mississippi Dept. of Archives and History This is professional, specialized work with responsibility for administering the Certified Local Government (CLG) program for the state of Mississippi, with special attention to the central and southern portions of the state; working with other agencies and organizations to promote historic preservation goals; overseeing the Preserve America program in the central and southern portions of the state; assisting with workshops and other educational and public events; and engaging in public education about architectural history through writing, speaking, and other outlets. Regular travel, sometimes at night, throughout the state for site visits and meetings is required, as well as an ability to work independently. Specialized experience includes working with local and state elected officials, writing and managing federal grants, and administering local preservation ordinances and commissions. Skills in interpersonal relationships and communication are necessary when dealing with local and state officials, private citizens, and other organizations, sometimes in the midst of controversial issues. Incumbent will work closely with the Senior Local Government Assistance Coordinator and under the administrative direction of the Chief Architectural Historian. Work is reviewed through conferences, personal inspection, written reports, and results obtained. Education and experience must meet one of the following criteria: Master's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a field related to the scientific, technological, or specialized functions of the employing agency and three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties, two (2) years of which must include line or functional supervision. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a field related to the scientific, technological, or specialized functions of the employing agency, and four (4) years of experience related to the above described duties, two (2) years of which must include line or functional supervision. Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED) and eight (8) years of experience related to the above described duties, two (2) years of which must include line or functional supervision.
