Each student at the University has the responsibility to refrain from dishonorable conduct. All incoming students, regardless of year or background, are expected to abide by the Honor System upon arrival at the University. Accompanying this individual commitment to uphold the Honor System is another obligation—a collective responsibility to ask those who violate our standards of honor to leave the University. As part of the application process, you have already signed the pledge below indicating that you will abide by the UVA Honor System. The Honor Committee has created a handbook on the honor system specifically tailored for incoming international students.

HONOR CODE AGREEMENT
I have read the explanation of the honor system. I understand that as a student at the University of Virginia, I will be participating in this system. I agree to support and abide by the honor system, which prohibits lying, cheating, and stealing. I understand and accept that the honor system is administered entirely by student representatives, including investigations, adjudications, and appeal review, and that violations may result in permanent expulsion and revocation of any university degree.
Please review the terms of the hard waiver program through which international students are required to demonstrate suitable levels of health insurance coverage.
You must attend the mandatory registration session required of all new international students of any non-immigrant status. Failure to attend a registration session will result in a block on your registration and may potentially result in a loss of your legal status in the United States.
You will need to take the required University of Virginia English Language Proficiency Exam, which is scheduled at the beginning of each semester through the Center for American English Language and Culture. Based on the results of the exam, International students will be required to take any recommended courses.
