Over the last several years, the diversity of the UVa School of Architecture’s people and projects, its reputation and even Campbell Hall itself have all grown beyond expectation. In the years to come, the School aims to be even more globally minded, change the lives of more students, become more sustainable and ecologically innovative, and continue to extend its impact beyond the walls of Campbell Hall. To do this, we need your help! There are many ways to give back to the School and sustain the momentum.

Annual Fund

Annual Giving for Daily Impact. The UVa School of Architecture Foundation Annual Fund is the backbone of institutional support. An annual gift is defined as any gift that is given to the UVa School of Architecture Foundation without restriction to its use (an unrestricted gift), or a gift that is designated to a particular area but is to be used within the current fiscal year (a restricted gift). At a time when state support provides only about one–third of the School’s operating budget, annual gifts of all sizes are critical. Gifts to the Annual Fund fill the gap left between tuition and the increasingly minimal State funding, with what funding is needed to maintain the operations of a top–ranked Architecture School and advance the students and faculty to their fullest potential. By making a commitment to the Architecture Foundation Annual Fund, you are making a commitment to have an immediate impact on the School and its success.

UNRESTRICTED GIVING

Every unrestricted donation, no matter what the size, from alumni, parents and friends significantly helps to support the areas of greatest need at the School. Unrestricted gifts are funds given to the UVa School of Architecture Foundation without restrictions on how the money can be used. This assures the School and Foundation unparalleled flexibility to cover unexpected costs and seize opportunities when they become available. Unrestricted gifts have been applied to top priorities such as:

  • student scholarships and work study
  • faculty research and development
  • travel opportunities
  • technology enhancements
  • innovative curriculum and studios
  • special lectures and exhibits
  • student publications
  • alumni activities
  • marketing and communications
  • library acquisitions

Leadership donors who have made an exceptional contribution to the UVa School of Architecture Foundation Annual Fund are recognized as members of the Dean’s Forum; the Architecture Annual Fund gift club. There are 5 levels of membership:

PARTNER $5,000+
PROFESSIONAL $2,500 – $4,999
PRINCIPAL $1,000 – $2,499
ASSOCIATE $500 – $999 (for alumni five to nine years following graduation)
INTERN $250 – $499 (for alumni within four years of graduation)

Participation as a leadership donor to the UVa School of Architecture Foundation grants recognition in the University’s annual giving recognition society within the Rotunda Society: The Pavilion Level ($2,500–$4,999), The Serpentine Level ($5,000–$9,999), The Colonnade Level ($10,000–$24,999), and The Dome Level ($25,000 and up).

Reunion Class Gift

Every five years, alumni in their reunion year are encouraged to make a special investment to the UVa School of Architecture Foundation in honor of their reunion class. Each Reunion class can contribute to their class gift by making an unrestricted donation once every five years or committing to a multi–year pledge. A multi–year pledge is paid out over the course of several years but the total amount of the pledge is accredited to the class gift during the Reunion year. (For example, if an alumna in honor of her 10th reunion, wants to donate $100 every year for the next 5 years until her next milestone reunion — all $500 will be included in her 10–year reunion gift total.) Multi–year pledges are a great way to make a meaningful commitment to your reunion campaign. To make a multi–year pledge, fill out this PDFform and send to:

Restricted and Endowment Giving

Restricted gifts are donations that are designated to a specific area of the UVa School of Architecture including faculty projects, student fellowships and named lectures. We encourage donors to consider establishing a named endowment to ensure generations of future support to the School and Foundation. Please contact the Foundation for more details and to explore your many opportunities.

Planned Giviing

A planned gift is one of several types of gifts that permit you to provide future benefit to the School while meeting your current financial, personal and philanthropic goals. Planned Gifts can provide significant tax benefits as well as lifetime income for the donor and even the family of the donor. A planned gift can be as simple as naming the UVa School of Architecture Foundation as a beneficiary in your will. All gift planning donors are recognized in the University’s Cornerstone Society for laying the groundwork for the University’s future. If you would like to know more about making a bequest or other planned giving opportunities like creating a charitable remainder trust, gift annuity, charitable lead trust or life insurance policy, please call Angie Fellers, 434–243–2098 or the Office of Planned Giving at 800–688–9882 or visit Gift Planning+.
