Financial Aid

Undergraduate students should visit the Student Financial Services+ website.

You may be eligible for three types of financial aid as a graduate student within the School of Architecture:

  1. Fellowships
Money awarded from the specific department.

  2. Federal Work–Study Funding*
If awarded work–study funds, you must work (and receive the job through the School of Architecture or the University of Virginia) to receive money. The University of Virginia Student Financial Services+ office will award work–study funds.

  3. Federal Loans*
In addition to the Stafford Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans, you may also apply for private loans to help fund their education. The University of Virginia Student Financial Services+ office will award loan funds.
*Please note that federal financial aid is available only to U.S. citizens or eligible non–U.S. citizens. For more information, please visit http://www.virginia.edu/financialaid/eligible.php. All admitted students are considered for merit-based fellowships.

To apply for fellowships available from the School of Architecture and for federal loans and work–study, you must submit the following applications:

  1. If you are a newly admitted student, you will be considered for all merit–based fellowships based on the strength of your initial program application. If you are offered a merit–based fellowship you will receive notification in your initial acceptance letter.

Current graduate students within the School of Architecture need to apply for merit–based and need–based financial aid on a yearly basis by completing the School of Architecture Graduate Fellowship Assistance application. An updated application will be posted in January 2010.
