Frederick P. Rose Architectural Fellowship in Community Development

The Frederick P. Rose Architectural Fellowship was established in 1999 by The Enterprise Foundation, a national nonprofit housing and community development organization. The Fellowship creates partnerships between new architects and community-based organizations to direct the skills and passions of the architects in the service of low and moderate-income communities. The Fellowship is designed to promote architectural and community design in low-income communities and encourages architects to become life long leaders in public service and community development. Fellows are expected to offer their time and energy to work as part of the partner organization's staff. The partner organization must be a Community Development Corporation (CDC) or other Community-Based Organization (CBO) with 501(c)(3) status or a Tribally Designated Housing Entity (TDHE). It must also be a member of The Enterprise Foundation Network. Fellows will contribute to the strengthening of the partner organization and the communities within which they work. Fellows are expected to make a commitment of three years.

Qualifications

. Applicants must possess a master’s degree in architecture from an accredited college or university, or expect to graduate from an accredited school of architecture before the fellowship begins.

Application Requirements

As part of the application process, they must develop a proposal that highlights a three-year work plan with tangible, measurable objectives. The partnership and proposal should be developed in conjunction with local or regional Enterprise Foundation staff. The proposal should identify specific, tangible "bricks and mortar" projects that can be achieved or be well underway by the time the Fellowship is completed. Applicants who are interested in developing a partnership but have not found a partner organization should contact the Director of the Rose Fellowship Program for a list of potential partners.

Amount

The Fellowship includes an annual stipend of $40,000 for a period of three years.The Enterprise Foundation also contributes toward a partner organization's cost of health insurance and payroll taxes that are paid on behalf of the Fellow.
