Course Description

This course explores the planning needs of the non-profit sector, as opposed to the public and private sectors. The focus will be on Habitat for Humanity and its local Habitat Store, a “thrift store for the home”. Because Habitat Store profits finance Habitat home construction in the region, the Store would like to increase its sales at the same time it provides affordable home maintenance materials to customers. Students will work with staff members at the Store to determine the appropriate methods to disseminate information about their mission, collect data, and prepare a final report. Students are required to serve as volunteers at the Store (on Harris Avenue) for a total of 4 hours during the semester, timing to be determined by the student in conjunction with Store needs.

Requirements

Several short assignments throughout the semester; final 10-page paper; 4 hours of work at Habitat Store.

Readings

TBD. Combination of monographs, articles, and book chapters posted to Collab, depending on format.
