Course Description
This elective seminar explores the interconnections between the disciplines of Architecture, Planning, and Public Health and gives students experience planning and designing healthy environments in the local community. The course focuses on Public Space and Housing within the domain of the built environment and the associated impact on the health of human communities and the larger ecosystem. The course is organized into two components: 1) interactive lectures, and an 2) interdisciplinary design lab. The course involves academic and topical readings, mini-lectures by instructors, guest lecturers, case study analysis, and student team presentations. Readings are assigned and engaged during in-class discussions and exercises. Student project teams will develop and present design proposals that address an issue situated at the intersection of the built environment and health in partnership with community partners.
