Wallerstein Scholarship
The Wallerstein Scholarship is awarded annually to a rising senior or graduate student with an interest in and/or dedication to working in local government. This interest can be demonstrated 1) by past experience, such as internships, volunteering, relevant research, or 2) by a brief essay defining an interest in local government. Applicants should be enrolled at the University of Virginia, University of Virginia's Wise campus or any of UVa's regional centers. This scholarship is targeted towards graduate students, but rising seniors may be considered. The award is administered by UVA's Weldon Cooper Center and the Virginia Municipal League (VML). The intent of the scholarship is to encourage the student(s) to produce research for the use of local government officials in Virginia. The Wallerstein Scholarship was established in 1973 at the University of Virginia by a gift from Ruth C. and Morton L. Wallerstein to foster interest and research in Virginia local government. Several previous scholarship recipients hold policy-making and management positions in state and local government in Virginia. The value of the annual award is $5,000.Disciplines:
