Sarah McArthur Nix Fellowship
Founded in 1996 by Lewis and Beth Nix in honor of his mother Sarah McArthur Nix, the intention of the fellowship is to support a line of research and independent study of an architecture student over the course of the summer in France. While it is not required, it is encouraged that the study of the Nix Fellow might entertain the influence of French architecture upon the work of Thomas Jefferson. The student is expected to share her/his gained experiences and scholarship with the students and the faculty of the School of Architecture upon her/his return in the form of a public lecture, exhibition, or publication.Disciplines:

Qualifications: The Sarah McArthur Nix Fellowship is open to all third year undergraduate architecture students, first-year Path B graduate architecture students, as well as first-and second-year Path A graduate architecture students.
Application Requirements:
Applicants shall submit the following materials for review by the selection committee:
- A project proposal including a statement of intent and a description of the proposed method(s) of research and graphic analysis to be developed while in France. Applicants are encouraged to provide examples of their own work as it relates to the proposed methods of graphic analysis.
- A preliminary project itinerary outlining sites to be visited.
- A preliminary project budget outlining all travel and research costs.
- A letter of recommendation from a faculty member of the School of Architecture.
The project done by the student in France shall be exhibited in the School of Architecture, shall be presented, by lecture and discussion, to the entire School, and shall be published in an appropriate publication or website. The research materials and papers produced by the student will be archived at the Fiske Kimball Fine Arts Library.
