Bettie with Friends and Grad Students
The Bettie Hall Fund
Bettie Hall, our beloved departmental assistant, will be retiring in December. Bettie has been with UVA for 33 years and with the planning department for over 20. I know many of us can’t imagine the school without her.

To honor her dedication to the faculty and students, we’ve established the Bettie Hall Fund ~ hoping to continue Bettie’s spirit of service.

The Bettie Hall Fund will support activities that contribute to academic and professional pursuits, beyond course offerings, such as attendance at the APA Conference in Minneapolis in the spring of 2009 and a Sustainable Cities Field Study to Vitoria-Gasteiz and Barcelona, also in the spring. This support will allow graduate students to fully explore experiential learning opportunities.

We have set an ambitious goal of $33,000 ($1,000 for every year Bettie has been at UVA) in an attempt to help as many students as possible this year and in subsequent years. To achieve this goal, we’ve created four levels of giving, although any amount is greatly appreciated. Your gift will be listed in the commemorative guest book presented to Bettie at her retirement party on the afternoon of December 3rd (details to follow).
Jane Jacobs Level - $500 and above
Ian McHarg Level - $250
Rachel Carson Level - $100
Frederick L. Olmstead - $50

In addition to our financial appeal, we are asking alumni to share memorable stories and pictures of Bettie. These will be presented to her, along with the fundraising results, at her retirement party at the A-School on Wednesday, December 3rd. All alumni are invited, so mark your calendars!

Checks, payable to the School of Architecture, can be mailed to the School of Architecture Foundation at PO Box 400122 Charlottesville, VA 22904 ~ with ‘Bettie Hall Fund’ on the memo line.

Or, visit the UVA School of Architecture Website to donate to the Bettie Hall Fund online (Link to Site) Remember to note “Bettie Hall Fund” in the special instructions section.

Thank you for your time and consideration. On behalf of all current planning students, we appreciate your support and hope to meet you at Bettie’s retirement party!
