April 13, 2009 -- General Meeting
ARH Reading Room Kat asked everyone to brainstorm some posters to put up on the wall in the ARH study room, we can make them, salvage them or buy some more posters and a bookshelf with leftover money.
Second years should donate used school books they would otherwise sell to be resources for the reading room.

o Kat put forward a motion to accept elections since one person only was running for each position, Callie seconded the motion and the election is official.
Susan Kern Lecture
o It was a really successful event. In the future, William and Mary is a good resource to bring. Her book is coming out at the end of the year.
o Kat sent her a thank you note today.
Professor Wilson’s Graduation Party, 2010
o Ed, as new social chair, should get in touch with Professor Wilson. Also he can talk with Sarita and Emily for ideas.
o Need to submit receipts before fiscal year is over, at or around June 1.
o Party will probably be 21st or 22cnd of May
Ideas to Use Remaining 2009-2010 Finances
o Field trip to Bacon’s Castle, end of this year, between exams and graduation. TJSAH could pay for gas etc.
o Scholarships for research of our students for conferences next year, research this summer, visits to historical sites. If interested, write Kat a compelling paragraph about financial needs.
o We lose the money June 1, so we need to allot it before then.
Brainstorming for next year
o For speakers next fall, brainstorm now and finalize this summer.
o Barry Bergdoll, Architecture and Design Dept, MoMA - Jackie and Professor Wilson can help
o Christina Wilson - Has been written into the budget for next year, will most likely be a spring lecture
o Professors Crane and Brothers will be in Washington, DC next Fall, TJSAH could generate a field trip to visit them
o Allysum suggested a field trip early in the fall
Tea with Professor Wilson
o Possible Times: 27, 28, 29 April, or first week of May, late afternoon to early evening
o It was decided first week of May would be better, Wednesday or Thursday

February 15, 2010 -- General Meeting
Upcoming Speakers
o Christina Wilson – conferred last fall, but scheduling conflicts mean she won’t come this semester, but agreed to come next fall. Kat suggested to hand it over to Jackie because dissertation topic aligns. Johanna will also sit down with next VP to discuss next fall.
o Susan Kern – emailed by Sarah, date with be in April Monday or Friday, Upcoming book on Shadwell. Applicable to historians, arch. Historians, alumni of our progra.
o Jesus Escobar – Prof. at Northwestern, on Fellowship in DC, splitting costs with art history, April 1, 2010, larger student gov. is also covering costs because it overlaps with so many departments, planning, Spanish etc.
o Katherine Brady made contact with a speaker who we will also help with, although not professionally. Could be a good candidate for a career lunch.
o Would we be interested in getting a joint membership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation to get access to job database resources? Get one account and share password. All seemed to be in favor of getting joint account.
o Jeff Hardwick -- teaches at Corcoran, works for national endowment, did African American vernacular for masters at Winterthur, mall maker shopping vernacular dissertation, also done publishing, good for a round table discussion
Décor
E-blast the vernacular arch forum to ask for free posters of vernacular architecture, Kat will also send an email to SAH. Lexie will print out a poster from the Palladio Symposium.
Punch key pad is ordered, but need a locksmith to install it.
In House Speakers
Tea with Wilson suggested by Brian, are interested in it again. Maybe Ginger Beer with Nelson too? Jackie suggested tape recording it for the archives.
End of the Year Field Trips
Between the end of thesis and graduation. Laura Purvis is doing some independent survey work at Crozier. She is interested in getting help sometime after March 1. If interested let Sarah know. Great opportunity to get into the field.
o Field trip suggested to Bacon’s Castle! Also Woodlawn and Pope Leighey.
For the Good of the Order
Lexie will not make anymore Design Crush posters unless other members send her text and photos. If TJ SAH wants to continue the posters, it needs to be a group effort. The work shouldn’t fall on one person’s shoulders.
Summer Program Plugs
o Victorian Society - Kat went to Newport last year. Really great experience. Great mix of interests.
o MESDA Summer Institute – Sarah went last year and it was great, about Chesa peake this summer.
