Transportation

Transportation Systems In the Thomas Jefferson Planning District

There are a number of different transportation options for elderly individuals in the TJPDC region. For residents of rural locations, JAUNT and Greene County Transit provide bus service to and from Charlottesville and within each of the surrounding counties. In terms of mobility in the urbanized areas of Charlottesville and adjacent Albemarle County, the primary transit provider is Charlottesville Transit Services (CTS), which runs a series of bus routes in and around the city. In addition to these services, a number of alternatives, such as taxis, park and ride lots, and carpools are available to help meet transportation demand.

Walking provides both transportation to nearby location and healthy exercise for the able bodied. The walkability of neighborhoods is a critical element to senior friendly communities.
